Why a poll is not a measurement

Prediction against opinion.

A poll asks what you want to believe. Democrez asks what you would actually do in a specific dilemma, and what you predict everyone else will do. The difference between what you declare as an opinion and what you forecast as human behavior is where real judgment lives.

Why surveys mislead.

When a traditional survey asks someone: “Do you support fair distribution of credit at work?”, 98% of people say yes. The question is virtually free of cost to answer. It costs nothing to endorse virtue in the abstract, and as a result, opinion polls consistently measure aspiration rather than reality.

Democrez replaces open-ended opinion with bounded, concrete situations. When forced to choose between two costly, defensible actions, your answer represents a real trade-off. But the second step is where measurement happens: predicting the aggregate.

The mental shift of predicting others

When you choose for yourself, you consult your personal values. When you predict what a hundred other people did, you must abandon what ought to happen and estimate what will happen. You are forced to model human nature, constraints, incentives, and social friction.

Most people discover that their model of other people is distorted. We systematically overestimate how much others agree with us, or we assume cynical worst-case motives. The gap between your prediction and the actual sealed aggregate is your personal measurement.

Society

A colleague takes credit for group research during an executive presentation. If you correct them publicly, the client pitch is derailed. If you stay silent, their promotion is finalized. What would you do, and what will 100 people choose?

Questions

Straight answers.

Why is a prediction more accurate than an opinion survey?

Surveys measure self-image and posturing. Predicting other people requires you to model real human behavior without moralizing, separating what should happen from what will happen.

Does Democrez tell me if my opinion was good?

No. Democrez measures your accuracy at anticipating human action. It is a mirror, not a judge of your values.
